Compact Track Loaders

The Hyundai HT100V compact track loader takes the attachment versatility and vertical-lift handling of a skid steer and adds a 400 mm rubber-track undercarriage for greater traction, stability and lower ground pressure. That makes it particularly well suited to landscaping, site preparation and material handling on soft, uneven or less predictable ground where a wheeled skid steer may struggle for grip.

A 54.9 kW Hyundai Stage V engine powers a 4.32-tonne machine with a 1,043 kg rated operating capacity at 35% tipping load, while the brochure also lists 1,490 kg at 50%. Basic auxiliary flow of 82.9 L/min and high-flow capability up to 128.8 L/min support demanding attachments, with a hydraulic quick coupler, 14-pin connector, auto self-levelling and two-speed travel helping the HT100V switch efficiently between loading, grading and tool-carrier work.

A compact track loader is a compact loading and attachment-carrying machine that runs on rubber tracks instead of tyres. It combines the versatility of a skid-steer-style loader with a larger ground contact area, giving strong traction and flotation on soft, loose or uneven surfaces. Compact track loaders are commonly used for construction, landscaping, groundworks and material handling where site access is limited but underfoot conditions can be challenging.

The term tracked skid steer is often used informally for a compact track loader because the machines share a similar size, cab layout and attachment concept. Technically, a compact track loader is built around a tracked undercarriage rather than simply being a wheeled skid steer with tracks fitted. That undercarriage changes traction, ground pressure, ride characteristics and maintenance requirements.

Choose a compact track loader when traction, flotation and performance on soft or uneven ground are important. Choose a wheeled skid steer where much of the work is on firm surfaces and fast, agile movement is the priority. Compact track loaders can be excellent for earthmoving and landscaping, while skid steers can be very efficient in yards and on hardstanding. Attachment needs should also be considered.

Compact track loaders are designed to spread machine weight over a larger contact area than a comparable wheeled loader, which can improve flotation and traction on soft ground. They are therefore popular for landscaping, groundworks and construction sites where conditions change. No machine is immune to poor ground conditions, so slope, soil strength, track condition and the load being carried still need to be assessed.

Compact track loaders can use many of the same attachment types as skid-steer loaders, including buckets, forks, sweepers, augers, breakers, trenchers and grabs. Hydraulic quick couplers and auxiliary services make them adaptable across different tasks. Check the attachment weight, hydraulic flow, pressure, electrical connection and operating capacity to make sure the machine and attachment are correctly matched.

A vertical lift path keeps the attachment moving more vertically through the upper part of the lift cycle, helping provide useful reach and stability when loading, stacking or handling pallets. It can be particularly valuable when working beside trucks or when material needs to be placed at height. Compare rated operating capacity, lift height and forward reach when selecting a compact track loader for handling work.

Ground pressure indicates how concentrated the machine’s weight is on the surface. A tracked loader can spread its weight across a larger footprint, which may reduce rutting and improve flotation compared with a wheeled machine. However, tracks and undercarriage components are wear items, so ground pressure benefits should be balanced against surface abrasiveness, travel distance and expected undercarriage running costs.
